250 Metres Through Real Jambiani

Our beach is not at the front door, it is about 250 metres away and the walk there is one of the most honest things we can show our guests. It starts at the gate of LITTLE POMPEJI Villa.

For the first hundred metres you walk straight ahead along a narrow lane, right between the simple homes of local families. You meet our neighbours and the village children and you realise quickly that you are not walking past a backdrop but through people’s everyday lives.

Many guests marvel at how simply people live here, some are even a little startled, because the sight has nothing in common with the polished pictures from travel agencies and the internet. I understand that, but this is exactly where the Zanzibar of the brochure and the real one part ways.

Then comes the Village Road, freshly paved. You cross it and step back into the narrow path between the houses. Another 150 metres, then the sea opens up in front of you.

Jambiani, and the south of the island in particular, is still the real Zanzibar.
